Why Start Early

Early visits shape a lifetime of healthy habits.

Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in childhood, and around 40 percent of kindergarteners have already had a cavity. The single best protection is starting dental visits early, building comfort and catching problems before they grow.

A child who grows up visiting the dentist for simple, painless checkups rarely develops the dental fear that affects so many adults. Those early positive experiences are what create an adult who keeps their appointments and takes care of their teeth.

The Process

How we protect your child's teeth.

Pediatric care is built around prevention. Here are the key tools we use at each stage.

FLUORIDE

Fluoride Varnish

Applied at every cleaning, fluoride strengthens enamel and remineralizes weak spots. It is one of the most effective, well-researched tools in preventing childhood cavities.

SEALANTS

Dental Sealants

Thin coatings painted into the grooves of newly erupted molars, where most childhood cavities start. Sealants cut molar cavity risk by around 80 percent.

CHECKUPS

Regular Checkups

Every six months we clean, examine, apply fluoride, and monitor how the teeth and jaw are developing, catching issues while they are small.

SPACE

Space Maintainers

If a baby tooth is lost too early, a space maintainer holds the gap so the permanent tooth can come in correctly instead of becoming crowded or blocked.

MORE IMPORTANT THAN PARENTS THINK

Why baby teeth deserve real care.

It is a common myth that baby teeth do not matter because they fall out anyway. In reality, they do critical work. They are the main tools for chewing during the years when good nutrition matters most, and they play a central role in how clearly a child learns to speak.

Baby teeth also hold space for the permanent teeth and guide them into the right positions. When a baby tooth is lost too early to decay, neighboring teeth drift into the gap, and the permanent tooth often erupts crooked or becomes impacted. Many years of orthodontic work can trace back to preventable early tooth loss.

Caring for baby teeth is not wasted effort, it is an investment in straight, healthy adult teeth and a child who grows up unafraid of the dentist.

Chewing And Nutrition

Healthy baby teeth let children eat and grow well.

Speech Development

Front teeth help children learn to form sounds clearly.

Space For Adult Teeth

Baby teeth guide permanent teeth into the right positions.

When should my child first see a dentist?

By the first birthday or within six months of the first tooth, whichever comes first. The first visit is mostly about comfort and familiarity, and it lets us guide you on protecting those new teeth early.

How do I prevent cavities in my child's teeth?

Brush twice daily with a small amount of fluoride toothpaste once teeth appear, floss when two teeth touch, and limit sugary drinks, especially at bedtime. Bring your child every six months for fluoride and early cavity detection.

When should my child get dental sealants?

Shortly after the permanent molars come in, around age six to seven for the first molars and eleven to thirteen for the second. We evaluate each child and recommend sealants at the right time.

Are dental X-rays safe for children?

Yes. Digital X-rays use very little radiation, far less than older film, and we only take them when clinically needed based on your child's individual risk.

My child is scared. How do you handle that?

We use gentle, simple language, explain each step first, and move at the child's pace. Tell us about the anxiety when you book so we can allow extra time. Most nervous children settle after one or two positive visits.

Can the whole family be seen here too?

Yes. We provide care for every age, so you, your children, and grandparents can all be seen at the same Connelly Springs office, often scheduled together on one day.
